Crisis/Emergency Services
Much like a hospital’s Emergency Department, Crisis/Emergency Services are available to our community for anyone in a crisis situation. Examples of crisis situations could be suicidal feelings or wanting to harm oneself, medication interactions/reactions or other instability requiring immediate intervention. Services can be accessed by individuals, family members, schools or law enforcement authorities.
Hospitalizations
Voluntary or involuntary hospitalizations are coordinated in Crisis/Emergency
Services. If recommended by your psychiatric team or the court
system, Crisis/Emergency Services can provide referrals and make
arrangements for inpatient care.
Our Hospital Diversion Team provides an
alternative to keep consumers in the community
When appropriate, our Hospital Diversion Team can help provide
a safety net to consumers in crisis. This multidisciplinary team
includes psychiatric nurses, psychiatrists and other mental health
professionals. Team members bring expertise in working with children
and adults with mental illness, developmental disability and substance
abuse diagnoses. Reaching outside the walls of our facilities,
team members outreach to consumers where they live, whether it’s
in a shelter, living at home or other arrangement. The Diversion
Team is on call 24/7 working out of both our Greensboro and High
Point locations.
For some consumers, traditional outpatient treatment does not address all consumers’ needs. The Diversion Team works with consumers and their natural supports – family, friends and community – to help build a bridge to treatment. The program aims to help consumers by providing crisis stabilization, engaging the consumer in treatment, and providing motivation for the consumer to follow through with the treatment program. Ultimately, the team works to give the consumer the tools he or she needs to engage in a long-term treatment plan with an appropriate provider.
Hospital liaisons help consumers return
to the community
Crisis/Emergency Services also provide a clinical liaison for
Guilford County residents as they transition out of inpatient
psychiatric care. In addition, Crisis/Emergency provides court-ordered
psychiatric evaluations for citizens in the court system.
How Do I Receive Services?
Our Crisis/Emergency Services are available 24 hours a day, seven
days a week at our Greensboro location. Crisis services are available
during business hours (8am-5pm) at our High Point Center. After-hours
services are available in High Point at High Point Regional Medical
Center.
To help speed the admission process, bring insurance forms or proof of income when you come to the Crisis/Emergency Center. If this is not possible, the fee setting process can be done at a later time.
At Crisis/Emergency Services, someone will determine if you need immediate treatment or if we can schedule you to meet with an intake clinician within the next few days.
